Message	It's a huge brick of catalytic material in the middle of a pipe. There aren't oil fumes coming out the exhaust, it's smoke, and smoke is still particulate. It hits the hot catalyst and sticks to it, not leaving out the cars bum bum. With no catalyst in the way, the smoke can go out the exhaust thru the open pipe, out the bum bum.
